Memoir stories

This collection of short pieces aims to revisit some of the events and experiences that have stayed in my memory as I grew up in country Western Australia. I decided to write down stories from my life after a conversation with Steve when we regretted not writing down stories from our Mum’s life. Dad was more of a record keeper so we have a few written pieces about his family and the journals from his treks in the Victorian Alps which I’ve reproduced on this site at Alf’s Journals.

These stories are written so that a few of my life experiences can be kept for family who might read them at times in the future. They are written as reflections from this point in time and may be quite different from how others experienced the times – that’s the nature of memories. Some of the photographs, diaries and letters that I’ve kept have been used as reference material and to provide images, words and phrases that evoke the feelings of the times.
